
Get To Know: Jessika Cowart

Five minutes into her college career, Jessika Cowart had already found her way onto the scoreboard.ย The California native scored her first career goal against Michigan State in the second game of the season for the Huskies, helping Washington to a big 4-0 win.ย While she did not score again as a freshman, Cowart's role grew from there, playing 20+ minutes against both USC and UCLA.
What does it feel like to play at Husky Soccer Stadium?
Cowart: It's an incredible feeling to finally be able to play at Husky Soccer Stadium. I can'tย wait to play in front of all the fans alongside some amazing athletes again.
What is something the coaching staff has taught you off the field?
Cowart: Off the field, my coaching staff has taught me how to carry myself, especially with the label of 'student-athlete'. They taught me that it is important to understand how "under the spotlight" we are as student-athletes.ย
What is it like to play in the Pac-12 Conference?
Cowart: It's truly a dream to play in the Pac-12 conference. It has been a lifelong goal to play in such a profound conference and I'm very excited to be able to do it in this one.
What is your favorite thing about living in Seattle?
Cowart: I've only been here for a short amount of time, but I really enjoy how welcoming everyone has been. Coming from California, I didn't know much about Seattle, but everyone I've met has been really helpful.
What are your favorite things to do in the summer in Seattle?
Cowart: My favorite things to do are go to Gasworks with my friends or go hiking.
What are some of your earliest memories of playing soccer?
Cowart:ย Playing goalie and I wasn't very good. I would punt the ball straight up in the air, catch it, and then try again.
Who is your biggest inspirationย in why you play soccer?
Cowart: My biggest inspiration would be Ronaldinho. Growing up I always used to try and emulate him because of his creativity. I watch him so much that my parents called me "Jessidinho".
What do you love most about playing soccer?
Cowart: I love the high level of competition that comes with playing soccer. I like how it drives everyone to be better than the person next to them.
Who were your favorite players growing up?
Cowart: My favorite playersย were Ronaldinho, Pele, and Marta. They were all very technical players and I always strive to imitate them on the field.
Can you talk about some of the experiences in soccer that have changed your life?
Cowart: Through soccer, I found futsal. It's most definitely changed my life because I was able to travel to Spain for the Futsal World Cup with the National Futsal Team. (We won!)
