DeHoog, Scambray, Schwan Named All-Americans
December 13, 2017 | Volleyball
SEATTLE โ Husky seniors Carly DeHoog, Tia Scambray, and Courtney Schwan were all named AVCA All-Americans today, one of the top honors in the sport. DeHoog was voted to the All-America Third Team while Scambray and Schwan earned honorable mention. It's the first All-America honor for DeHoog and Scambray in their final years, and the second honor for Schwan.
ย
The first All-America honors for DeHoog and Scambray make seven different Dawgs that have earned All-America honors over Head Coach Keegan Cook's first three seasons. The Huskies have had at least one All-American on the top-three teams ever year going back to 2002.
ย
DeHoog is one of seven opposites on the top three All-America teams. She is the third Husky right side hitter to earn All-America honors in the past four years, along with Crissy Jones in 2016 and Kaleigh Nelson in 2014.
ย
DeHoog led the Huskies in kills this season with 349 and 2.88 per set and played every set. Her .305 attack percentage was also the highest on the squad out of all hitters or blockers and she averaged a big career-best in blocks with 0.96 per set. All that for a player expected to play a reserve role heading into her fifth year. DeHoog had 171 career kills coming into 2017 and more than doubled that this year.
ย
Scambray joins Cassie Strickland as recent Husky outside hitters who transitioned to libero and earned honorable mention All-America honors.
ย
Scambray, who set the UW career record for sets played at 467, led the Huskies with 3.91 digs per set and served up a career-high 48 aces, sixth-most in a single season in UW history. Her stint back at outside hitter allowed her to reach 1,000 career kills, becoming the fifth Husky with 1,000 career kills, 1,000 career digs, and 100 career aces. Scambray finishes fifth in school history in career digs with 1,340 and tied for third in total aces with 146.
ย
Schwan earned honorable mention this season after First Team honors a year ago. The All-Pac-12 pick played every set for the second straight year and ranked second on the team with 2.72 kills per set. She doubled her career total in service aces coming into the year, serving up 41 this season with only 22 service errors, as she and Scambray became the first UW duo with 40+ aces in the same season. Schwan also had a career-best 2.88 digs per set and a career-high 62 blocks. Her 1,301.5 career points scored ranks sixth in the rally scoring era, while she ranks 14th in school history with 1,118 kills and came up just short of 1,000 career digs with 957.
