Mixed Results After Day One At Jack Kramer
November 02, 2017 | Men's Tennis
ROLLING HILLS ESTATE, Calif. – Two pairs moved on to the doubles quarterfinals and three Huskies are going to the round of 16 in singles after the first day at the Jack Kramer Club Invitational on Thursday.
Freshman Karlo Boljat had a stellar first day of college tennis. In his first collegiate competition, Boljat won his first singles match and doubles match. As a team, Washington went 4-5 in singles and 2-2 in doubles.
In singles, the day started off with the round of 64. Only two Huskies did not have first round byes, so both Jack Davis and Amit Batta had matchups. Batta won his match against USC's Henry Ji, winning in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, 1-0(6). However, Davis fell in his match in two sets, 7-6, 6-3.
The round of 32 saw mixed results for the Dawgs. Boljat picked up his first win against Georgetown's Marco Lam, 6-1, 7-5. Enzo Sommer also won his match, earning the victory in a three-set match, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(8). Batta rounded out the wins in that round, winning in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Four Huskies fell in the round of 32. Piers Foley fought against Connor Hance from UCLA for three sets; however, he ultimately fell. Sebastian Hawken, Alexis Alvarez and Kawika Lam all lost their matches in two sets.
Doubles saw success for two Husky pairs. Boljat and Davis teamed up to take down UCLA's Bellamy and Hance, 8-4. Lam and Sommer paired together to defeat Lam and Lee from Georgetown, 8-3. The other two UW duos lost their doubles matches.
The Jack Kramer Invite continues on Friday. Results and draws can be seen on the USTA website.
