Washington Ends Kansas Invitational With Two Singles Wins

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Washington women's tennis saw two singles wins on the last day of the Kansas Invitational on Sunday.
"This weekend was successful for us in many ways," Washington head coach Robin Stephenson said. "We had some team goals and individual goals, and we accomplished many of them. The level of competition was very high and will help prepare us for our tough spring schedule. We are excited to compete again next weekend and continue to get better."
As a team, the Huskies went 2-4 in singles during the last day of play. They faced opponents from both Auburn and Maryland.
No. 18 Stacey Fung defeated Jaeda Daniel from Auburn in two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Fung won 2 of 3 singles matches this weekend.
Senior Alexis Prokopuik also won her match on Sunday, taking down Auburn's Madeline Meredith, 6-3, 6-3. At the Kansas Invitational, Prokopuik went undefeated in singles.
In a three-set battle, Vanessa Wong fell Eva Alexandrova from Maryland. After winning the first set 6-1, Wong lost the next two sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Lana Slavica took on a ranked foe on Sunday, facing No. 94 Alannah Griffin from Auburn and falling in three sets. She won the first set with a score of 6-1 before dropping the next two, 6-2, 6-4.
Kenadi Hance also played a member of the Tigers team and lost. Angela Li was matched up against Arnelle Sullivan from Maryland and dropped the match in two sets as well.
Next up for the Huskies, Fung will play in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship beginning on November 1. The rest of the team will play in the Jack Kramer Club Invitational from November 2-5.
