ROLLING HILLS ESTATE, Calif. – Stacey Fung's run at the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships came to an end on Thursday after a tough three-set loss. The rest of the team at the Jack Kramer Club Invitational saw mixed results in doubles and singles after the first day on Thursday.
No. 18 Fung fell in three sets to No. 54 Samantha Harris from Duke. After dropping the first set with a score of 6-1, she came back to take the second set, 7-5. However, Harris took the final set, 6-3.
"I had a great time playing the fall nationals," Fung said. "It was such a fun environment to be in and to play against the best in the country. I'm super excited to take the rest of the fall to work on things I want to improve on in my game and be as ready as I can for the season."
In the Jack Kramer Invite, freshman Vanessa Wong won her singles match against Amanda Atanasson from UC Santa Barbara in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. She will join Miki Kobayashi and Kenadi Hance, who both had first-round byes, in the round of 32 on Friday.
Lana Slavica and Angela Li had singles matches on Thursday as well, however they both dropped their matchups in two sets.
In doubles, Hance and Slavica teamed up in the round of 32, taking down a duo from LMU, 8-7. However, in their match in the round of 16, a team from BYU won, 8-4. Kobayashi and Wong beat a pair from Fresno State, 8-6, in the round of 16 to move on to the next round on Friday.
