Huskies Find Success In Consolation Rounds Of ITA Northwest Regionals

STOCKTON, Calif. – Washington men's tennis found success in the consolation rounds at the ITA Northwest Regional on Saturday despite dropping out of both the singles and doubles main draw.
In doubles, Piers Foley and Kawika Lam were in the round of 16 in the main draw, the last Huskies left in both singles and doubles in the main draw. However, they lost, 8-6.
The consolation round for doubles is a round robin format. The two Washington pairs won their matches today in that round. Alexis Alvarez and Sebastian Hawken won, 8-1, and Amit Batta and Jack Davis came out on top as well, 8-5.
Three Huskies in the third round of consolation singles picked up wins. Lam and Foley won their matches due to injury. Hawken took down Everett Maltby in two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Alvarez fell in his match in two sets, 7-5, 6-1.
In the fourth round of consolation singles, Foley and Hawken continued on, both winning their matches in three sets. Against Kyle Everly, Foley won 5-7, 6-1, 1-0(4), and Hawken, who went undefeated on Saturday, defeated Trenton Nield, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0(8). Lam fell in this round, losing in two sets, 6-4, 6-0.
Singles also had a round robin consolation round on Saturday. Davis picked up a win against Martin Bats, 6-3, 6-2.
The ITA Northwest Regionals continues on Sunday with the fourth day of competition. Check back here for results.
