Washington Finishes In Third At Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The University of Washington men's golf team started off the spring season with a solid third-place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz. Sophomore Carl Yuan finished in a tie for second overall, a new career-best.
The Huskies shot a two-day total of 873 (299-298-276) at the par-71 Sewailo Golf Club and finished behind No. 20 Oregon's 857 and Pepperdine's 869. Washington finished better than six top-50 teams, including No. 8 Texas A&M, and beat four Pac-12 foes (California, No. 39 UCLA, Arizona and Washington State).
Washington was in sixth place after the second round but surged three spots to No. 3 thanks to an impressive 8-under 276 in the final round.
With a career-low 6-under 65 in the final round, Yuan, an Pac-12 All-Freshman Team selection, led the Huskies with a tie for second-place finish. Senior Corey Pereira shot a 4-under 67 in his final round to tie for 17th while freshman Henry Lee finished in a tie for 29th with a 224 (77-74-73).
Yuan's career-best 13 birdies were tied for second-most in the tournament, with seven of them coming in the final round.
Frank Garber posted a 226 (76-75-75) to finish in a tie for 37th, while Sam Warkentin tied for 42nd at 227 (79-77-71). He had three birdies during his final-round of an even-par 71.
Washington is back in action on Feb. 15-17 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii.
