Washington Hands Dartmouth First Loss Of Season
September 08, 2016 | Men's Soccer
HANOVER, N.H. - The University of Washington Huskies earned their third straight win of the season after they defeated Dartmouth, 1-0. The team improved their overall record to 3-1 as they gave Dartmouth (0-1-2) their first loss of 2016.
"We gutted one out today," said Washington head coach Jamie Clark. "Dartmouth really pushed us to the brink in the second half. I give credit to our guys though, they weathered the late push."
The Huskies defense survived under extreme pressure in the first half as the Big Green controlled the ball for the majority of the 45 minutes. Late in the 22nd minute, the team was able to turn the ball around and Kyle Coffee found his way into the box, passed the ball to David Coly who netted the lone goal of the match.
Just moments before the goal, Henry Wingo took a shot that went high over the net.
Handwalla Bwana took a shot after a foul on the Big Green that was blocked by a defender just three minutes into the second half. After three saves by goalkeeper Auden Schilder the score remained 1-0.
Dartmouth pressured the defense inside the six in the dying minutes of the match. The team fought off one shot, one corner kick and two free kicks inside the box in the final five minutes.
The team recorded seven shots from David Coly (3), Henry Wingo (2), Scot Menzies (1) and Handwalla Bwana (1).
The Huskies will continue on their East Coast Road trip to Harvard for a 4 p.m. PT matchup in Boston, Mass. The match will be available via live stats at gocrimson.com and live stream at ivyleaguedigitalnetwork.com/harvard.
