ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The University of Washington men's golf team surged three spots with a solid final round to claim fourth place at the 16-team William H. Tucker Invitational. The Huskies shot the second-lowest round of the day to end the tournament at 15-over (293-296-290=879).
"We're pleased with how we got better and moved positions in the leaderboard each day," head coach Alan Murray said. "Our goal is to win every tournament so we're not satisfied, but everyone has shown positive and encouraging signs that we're headed in the right direction. We're looking forward to seeing what we can do against a really strong field in Texas next week."
San Diego State led from start to finish in winning the event with an 863 team score, as the Aztecs were the only school under par at 1-under. Colorado State took second with an 873 total, followed by BYU (878).
Senior Corey Pereira (72-71-71=214) led the Huskies for the second consecutive weekend, finishing tied for third after turning in a final round one-under par score on the par-72, 7,580-yard UNM Championship Course. The senior netted a 2-under 214 and was just four strokes off the lead. Pereira's team-leading 13 birdies tied for third-best overall.
Freshman Sam Warkentin (71-77-72=220) finished tied for 14th place after shooting an even par 72 in the third round. Junior Frank Garber (76-73-72=221) concluded the tournament with his best round by shooting 72 and finished in a tie for 19th place at 5-over.
At 8-over, freshman Henry Lee (74-75-75=224) finished tied for 31st while senior Kevin Kwon (78-79-79=236) finished tied for 79th with a 20-over 236.
