October 01, 2016 | Men's Golf
SEATTLE -- The University of Washington men's golf team will resume its fall slate on Sunday when it tees off at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
The event features a highly competitive field with 10 of the 15 teams ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.
The three-day tournament will get under way with a shotgun start at 9:45 a.m. PT on Sunday. The tournament will feature 54 holes of competition – 18 each day from Sunday-Tuesday.
Colonial Country is an iconic par-70, 7,209-yard venue that has hosted two major championships and since 1946 has hosted what is now called the Dean & DeLuca Invitational, the longest-running non-major PGA Tour event at one site.
Washington is coming off a fourth place finish at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico last weekend. Senior Corey Pereira led the Huskies, finishing tied for third after turning in a pair of one-under par scores on the par-72, 7,580-yard UNM Championship Course.
Pereira leads Washington with a 72.33 scoring average in six rounds this season and has shot in par or better in four of his six rounds on the campaign.
Freshman Sam Warkentin, who tied for 14th place in Albuquerque and has a 73.33 stroke average on the season, will play No. 2 for Washington at Colonial. After concluding last weekend with his best round this fall, shooting par and finishing in a tie for 19th place, junior Frank Garber will play in the No. 3 spot.
Coming off his collegiate debut last weekend, freshman Henry Lee will play in the No. 4 position, while junior Jordan Lu is in the lineup in the No. 5 spot for the second time this fall.
Washington will face off against Pac-12 foes Arizona, Oregon, Stanford (14) and USC (13) in Fort Worth, and will also be joined by Clemson (6), Duke (19), Florida (8), Georgia (12), Ohio State, Oklahoma (11), TCU, Texas (5), Vanderbilt (9) and Wake Forest (10).
