Huskies Seventh In AVCA Preseason Poll
August 10, 2016 | Volleyball
SEATTLE - Practice just began on Tuesday for the Husky volleyball team, but the AVCA wasted little time with its preseason coaches poll, which was unveiled this afternoon. Washington will begin the season ranked seventh nationally when it opens play on August 27 against James Madison.
Fittingly, the Huskies were tied with USC at the No. 7 spot, the highest ranking among Pac-12 teams. Washington and USC tied for the Pac-12 title last year with 18-2 records. Defending national champion Nebraska opened at No. 1, followed by Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Hawaii, then UW and USC. Other Pac-12 teams ranked include No. 11 Stanford, and No. 12 UCLA. Also receiving votes are Oregon, Arizona, and Arizona State.
This marks the 208th consecutive top-25 ranking for Washington, a streak that dates back to the 2003 season. The Huskies have been ranked in the top-10 for 184 out of those 208 polls, and have been in the top-10 for 62 consecutive polls. Last year the Dawgs finished the season ranked No. 6 after making the Elite Eight.
