April 09, 2016 | Men's Tennis
BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 30 Washington men's tennis team fell today to No. 19 California 4-0 at the Hellman Tennis Complex to drop to 16-6 on the season and 3-2 in Pac-12 play.
Due to potential weather in the afternoon the match began with singles, which was paused at one point due to rain. Court one was the first match to finish with 30th ranked Florian Lakat defeating No. 78 Mitch Stewart 6-2, 6-1. On court five No. 76 Oskar Wikberg defeated Sebastian Hawken to give the Bears the 2-0 lead.
“I thought they just played better, they started off playing very well,” said head coach Matt Anger. “They were top-notch throughout.”
On court four Gal Hakak fell to Filip Bergevi 6-2, 6-4 with the clinching match coming on court three, as Jake Douglas faced a tough challenge in 23rd ranked Andre Goransson but ultimately lost 6-2, 6-2.
“Basically as the match went on they were playing better,” said Anger. “I had hoped it would be the other way around as we got more comfortable, but Cal did a good job today and they deserved the win.”
With the match already clinched and the weather forecast calling for more rain, doubles were called off.
The Huskies will travel to Stanford, Calif. tomorrow where they will face the 42nd ranked Cardinal at 1 p.m. You can follow along with Stanford's live stream link above in the related links section.
