
Huskies Lead by 12 Strokes after Day One of RedHawk Invitational

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The 27th-ranked University of Washington men's golf team took a commanding lead following two rounds at the RedHawk Invitational presented by OGIO on Monday. UW carded a 38-over 606 (301-305), 12 strokes ahead of second place, during a very blustery day at Chambers Bay Golf Club, home of the 2015 U.S. Open.
The Dawgs placed three in the top 10, including the day's individual leader, Frank Garber, and knocked in 17 birdies through two rounds. The 54-hole event concludes Tuesday with 18 holes teeing off at 8 a.m. PT.
Garber sits atop the individual leaderboard having posted rounds of 2-over 73 and 5-over 76 for a 7-over 149, one stroke ahead of second place. The sophomore's morning round featured four birdies followed by two more on the back nine of the second round en route to his first place standing.
Just one stroke behind him, is teammate Jonathan Saunders. The senior opened the day strong with two birdies over the first five holes and finished the first round at 4-over 75. He matched that score over the next 18 to put his two-round total at 8-over 150, which is tied with DePaul's Freddy Thomas and TCU's Giulio Castagnara for second place.
Joining the pair in the top 10 is freshman Carl Yuan, who's two round total of 10-over 152 is tied for seventh. Yuan improved upon his first round score of 7-over 77 by two strokes, closing out the next 18 holes at 4-over 75.
Junior Corey Pereira sits six strokes off the lead as he carded a 13-over 155 to finish tied for 17th. Sophomore Jordan Lu rounded out the UW lineup as he posted back-to-back rounds of 8-over 79 to finish at 16-over 158 which is tied for 32nd.
Additionally, Washington had three players competing as individuals in Kevin Kwon (T21st, 14-over 156), Chris Babcock (T28th, 15-over 157) and Tyler Salsbury (T53rd, 21-over 163).
The Huskies will look to win their third team title of the season and fifth top two finish as they hit the course Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. PT. Live scoring can be found on birdiefire.com
