Jordan Lu Claims Medalist Honors at Olympic College Men's Invitational

SEATTLE – Sophomore Jordan Lu earned his first tournament title as he claimed medalist honors at the Olympic College Men's Invitational tournament on Friday. The Vancouver, B.C., native carded a 71-70 to finish at 3-under 141, four strokes ahead of second place. Overall, Washington, which was competing as individuals, placed three in the top 10 on the player leaderboard and had all five finish in the top 40.
Joining Lu in the top five was junior Kevin Kwon, who knocked in a 2-over 146 to finish tied for fourth. Kwon opened the tournament with a strong round of 1-under-71 thanks to four birdies over the final 14 holes and eventually finished with seven total holes under par to earn his third top-five finish of the season.
Senior Tyler Salsbury posted a 6-over 150 to finish tied for seventh. Salsbury improved upon his first round score by two strokes after carding three birdies over his final 18 holes. Additionally, freshman Matt Marrese posted a run of two birdies and one eagle during a six-hole stretch which helped him finish at 9-over 153 for a 13th-place tie.
Rounding out the UW crew was sophomore Spencer Weiss who also made a two-stroke improvement during his second round en route to finish at 10-over 154, which tied for 17th place. Chris Babcock made the largest jump between rounds as he posted a 5-over 77 on Friday to move to 16-over 160, which tied for 36th. Babcock improved his score by six strokes on day two.
Up next, the Huskies head to the legendary Chambers Bay Golf Course, home of the 2015 U.S. Open, as they will compete in the RedHawk Invitational on Monday April 4-5.
