Dawgs Host Oregon For Senior Day
April 13, 2016 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE – The No. 35 Washington men's tennis team will close out their regular season this Saturday at 3 p.m. with a Pac-12 Network-televised match against No. 41 Oregon at Bill Quillian Stadium.
The match will be senior day for the Huskies, as they will honor Rishabh Raman for his time with the program. Joining the team in 2012 by way of Chennai, India, Raman has posted a winning record in singles all four season and holds an 11-2 record in dual match play. He will graduate this summer with a major in Psychology.
The Huskies are coming off of a tough weekend on the road, falling to California and Stanford. Both matches were affected by rain, as the match against Cal was shortened to only singles, and the match versus Stanford was delayed six hours and moved to a new location indoors.
Washington will enter this weekend fifth in the Pac-12 with a 3-3 record in conference, with the Ducks just behind them at sixth at 2-4.
Oregon currently holds two rankings by the ITA, with junior Jayson Amos ranked 124th in singles, and Amos and Armando Soemarno ranked 30th in doubles. Amos leads the team with 24 singles wins on the year and a 17-2 dual match record, and holds an impressive 15-2 record in doubles with Soemarno. The Ducks are led by head coach Nils Schyllander who is in his 10th year and was named the Wilson/ITA Northwest Region Coach of the Year in 2014. Like The Dawgs Oregon's last two matches were losses on the road to Stanford and California, moving the Ducks to 3-4 on the road.
The match will begin with doubles at 3 p.m., with singles beginning at 4 p.m. when the Pac-12 Network live Broadcast will begin. Admission will be free with pizza served between the doubles and singles matches to all in attendance.
