March 09, 2016 | Women's Golf
The event, which was originally slated to be 54 holes over two days, was shortened to 36 after weather delays on day one forced the cancellation of one of the first rounds on Monday. Washington posted its best round of the event on Tuesday with an 8-over 296, improving upon its first round score by four strokes.
Senior Ying Luo led the charge on day two as she recorded three birdies on the back nine to post a 2-over 74 and finish at 2-over 146 to tie for eighth overall. It is her fourth top 10 finish this season and her eighth top 25 showing. Luo has been one of the Huskies top three finishers in every tournament this season.
Placing just one stroke behind Luo was fellow senior Charlotte Thomas who carded a two-round total of 3-over 147 to tie for 14th. Thomas recorded her best round on Tuesday with a 1-over 73 in a round that included four birdies over the final 13 holes.
Freshman Sarah Rhee earned her second-best overall finish of the season as she posted back-to-back rounds of 3-over 75 to finish tied for 19th. Rounding out the UW crew was freshman Clementina Rodriguez who climbed seven spots during the final round to place tied for 39th at 9-over 153. Her 2-over 74 matched her career-best round at UW.
California, ranked 14th, won the team title with a 7-over 583 while No. 33 Colorado finished second and Oregon State came in third. Cal's Hannah Suh took home the individual crown with a 4-under 140.
Up next, Washington heads to the Dallas Athletic Club, Friday-Saturday April 1-2 in Dallas, Texas. The Huskies have just two tournaments remaining before the Pac-12 Championships which take place April 18-20 in Pleasanton, California.
