All-America Honors Roll In For Four Huskies
December 12, 2016 | Football
Budda Baker, John Ross, Trey Adams and Taylor Rapp all reaped All-America honors over the weekend and on Monday for the College Football Playoff-bound Huskies.
Baker and Ross were both named to ESPN.com's All-America team. Baker, a junior defensive back, earned first team recognition by the Football Writer's Association while Ross and Adams earned second team accolades.
Baker and Ross were each named to the Associated Press' All-America second team.
Rapp was named to the Freshman All-America team as a defensive back by both ESPN and USA Today.
Baker was previously named first team All-America by the Sporting News. He was recently named first team All-Pac-12 and voted Defensive MVP by his teammates. He ranks second on the squad with 65 total tackles and leads the team with nine tackles for loss. He also accounted for two sacks, a pair of interceptions and five pass break ups.
Ross, a junior receiver, returned from a knee injury that prevented him from playing in 2015 to post historic numbers. The first team All-Pac-12 selection made 76 catches for 1,122 yards and scored 19 touchdowns – 17 via reception, and one each by rushing and kick-off return. Ross' 17 touchdown receptions are tied for second-most in the nation this year and are the second-most in Pac-12 single-season history. At the season's end, Ross was voted Offensive MVP by his teammates.
Adams was one of two first team All-Pac-12 offensive linemen for the Huskies. He and Jake Eldrenkamp were the first Huskies to earn All-Pac-12 recognition since 2001. Adams becomes the first Husky to earn All-America honors since Chad Ward in 2000.
Rapp, a true freshman from Bellingham, Wash., was the Pac-12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year and earned MVP honors of the Pac-12 Championship game after intercepting two passes. He was fifth on the Huskies' vaunted defense with 45 tackles and led the team with four interceptions.
The American Football Coaches Association will announce its All-America team on Dec. 14.
