
Huskies Tied For Fifth In Stroke Play, Battles UCLA In Match Play

SEATTLE -- The University of Washington men's golf team finished in a tie for fifth after 36 holes of stroke play on Monday at the Gifford Collegiate in Napa, Calif. The Huskies will face host and No. 6-seed UCLA in Tuesday's match play quarterfinals at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
After a solid 6-under par 354 opening round, Washington followed with a 2-over 362 in round two to post a 36-hole total of 716 (-4) on the day. Tomorrow's matchup against the Bruins will begin at 7:57 a.m. off the 10th tee. Live scoring will be available here.
Tuesday's schedule:
7:57 a.m. - Henry Lee vs. Spencer Soosman
8:07 a.m. - Carl Yuan vs. Hidetoshi Yoshihara
8:16 a.m. - Daniel List vs. Matt Hutchins
8:26 a.m. - Corey Pereira vs. Cole Madey
8:35 a.m. - Sam Warkentin vs. Patrick Murphy
8:45 a.m. - Frank Garber vs. Tyler Collier
Other matchups will be No. 1-seed USC vs. No. 8-seed Wisconsin, No. 2-seed Stanford vs. No. 7-seed South Florida and No. 4-seed Colorado and No. 5-seed Northwestern. Tuesday's match play quarterfinals will be followed by semifinals later in the afternoon.
Henry Lee led the Huskies on the opening day, following a 3-under 69 in the morning with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon to tie for seventh (-5, 139). Carl Yuan finished 15th, going 70-72 (-2, 142). After a strong start in the morning, shooting 3-under 69, senior Corey Periera followed with a 4-over 76 in the afternoon and currently sits in a tie for 25th place.
Highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole, Frank Garber tied for 31st with a 1-over 73 in the morning and a 2-over 74 in the afternoon. After a tough opening round, Daniel List finished strong, shooting 2-under 70 in the second round. Sam Warkentin finished in a tie for 41st, firing 1-over 73 in the first round before following it with a 5-over 77 second round.
