SEATTLE - The Dawgs return to Alaska Airlines Arena for the first time since mid-October to begin a string of four straight home matches that will prove critical to a Pac-12 race that still has seven teams within two games of the lead with eight matches to go. Washington, ranked eighth this week, starts the homestand with a top-25 battle against No. 20 Oregon, another of the conference squads in the thick of the title hunt. The Huskies (19-3, 9-3 Pac-12) and Ducks (15-6, 8-4 Pac-12) get started this Friday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. and then a dangerous Oregon State team that battled the Huskies hard in Corvallis visits Seattle on Sunday with a 3 p.m. start.
Friday's contest will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks on their Washington and Oregon channels. Sunday will be shown live only on GoHuskies.com. For the match-up with Oregon, fans are encouraged to wear all purple, and there will also be an autograph session with the Dawgs at the end of the match.
Washington has had some time to rest up after playing four road matches in eight days, coming out with a 3-1 record in that span. The Huskies are tied with UCLA at the head of the Pac-12. In Pac-12 matches, the Dawgs rank third in both hitting percentage at .259 and opponent hitting percentage at .187. Washington leads in aces per set at 1.48 and is third in blocks per set with 3.00. Courtney Schwan is sixth in the league with 3.86 kills per set in conference matches, while Crissy Jones leads the league with 0.31 aces per set, and Bailey Tanner is second with 10.81 assists per set, and freshman Kara Bajema ranks third with a .357 attack percentage.
Oregon remains in the thick of the conference race with an 8-4 record. The Ducks had two big road wins at Utah and Colorado then split at home last week, falling in five sets to Arizona and beating Arizona State in four. Lindsey Vander Weide leads the Ducks on offense with 3.17 kills per set, and Taylor Agost is one of the most efficient outside hitters in the nation, hitting .337 with 2.56 kills per set. Freshman middle blocker Ronika Stone is hitting .365 for the year, fourth in the Pac-12, and averages 1.12 blocks per set. Senior libero Amanda Benson is the Pac-12 leader in digs with 5.06 per set. Oregon is hitting .260 in Pac-12 play, one percentage point better than the Huskies. Washington won the first meeting this year in straight sets in Eugene helped by 12 big kills from Bajema.
The Beavers gave the Huskies a stern test in the first meeting this year, as UW rallied late to win the first and third sets to ultimately win in four sets. Oregon State just picked up its second conference win, upsetting Arizona, 3-1, in Corvallis last week to snap a seven-match losing skid. In conference matches, OSU ranks 11th with a .170 attack percentage and has allowed opponents a .251 mark. Junior Mary-Kate Marshall is the No. 2 point producer in the Pac-12, averaging 4.61. Lanesha Reagan also averages 3.43 kills per set, with Lila Toner adding 2.35 kills. Kayla Ellis is fifth in the Pac-12 with 4.07 digs per set. The Huskies have won 14 straight over the Beavers in Seattle.
