Hakak Advances In Qualifying Draw
November 12, 2016 | Men's Tennis
The Washington men's tennis team continued play in their final weekend of action for the fall season, with Gal Hakak grabbing another win in Florida, and both Amit Batta and Joao Barra winning their consolation semifinal matches.
Playing in Pensacola, Fla. at the USA F37 Futures Event, Gal Hakak defeated Tim Buehler 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the third round in the qualifying draw. He will face Robert Galloway tomorrow, needing just two more wins to reach the main draw.
In the consolation singles semifinals at the Jack Kramer Invitational, Batta picked up yet another win this weekend, as the freshman defeated UCLA's Daniel Gealer 6-3, 6-2. After dropping a tough first set 6-7 against Daniel Grunberger of Cornell, Barra came back for a big 7-5 win in the second, and won the third set tie-breaker 10-4. Instead of facing each other in the finals, the Huskies will take on one last opponent from another school in Rolling Hills, Calif. before heading home.
