
UW Eliminated From Main Draw At ITA Regional

BERKELEY, Calif. – With one remaining doubles pair in the main draw at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional the Washington men's tennis team was eliminated by a pair from California 8-1.
Junior Mitch Stewart was paired with newcomer Amit Batta this weekend, winning their opening match over a duo from San Francisco 8-1 to open the main draw. In the doubles round of 32, they defeated Stanford's David Wilczynski and William Geneson 8-4, before grabbing a win over Bryce McKelvie and James Wade of UC Davis 8-3 in the round of 16.
In today's quarterfinals, Stewart and Batta matched up against Andre Goransson and Billy Griffith of California, where they lost a tough match 8-1.
"We played well today," said Washington head coach Matt Anger. "But they hit a streak where they just didn't miss."
Finishing up at this weekend's regional, the Huskies now look forward on their schedules, with a USTA Futures Event in Birmingham, Ala. and the Jack Kramer Invitational up next.
