Huskies Defeat Portland For Third Win This Weekend

SEATTLE – The Washington women's tennis team capped off a busy weekend of three matches in two days, with a third win against Portland 6-1.
The Huskies began by taking all three doubles matches to go up 1-0 over the Pilots. Nour Abbes and Grace Ysidora finished first, defeating Maja Mladenovic and Tori Troesch 6-2. Miki Kobayashi and Tami Grende defeated Lucia Butkovska and Jelena Lazarevic 6-4, while Elianne Douglas-Miron and Stacey Fung picked up the win against Tatiana Grigoryan and Radina Dimitrova 6-3.
“We are really pleased with the win today,” said head coach Robin Stephenson. “I thought the team showed a lot of poise and toughness out there.”
Singles began with Nour Abbes falling to Butkovska 6-0, 6-2 and Grace Ysidora defeating Lazarevic 6-1, 6-2. Kenadi Hance continued her strong opening to the season, as she defeated Saroop Dhatt 6-0, 6-1. No. 65 Stacey Fung grabbed her third win of the weekend defeating Mladenovic 6-2, 6-3 and Douglas-Miron defeated Grigoryan 6-3, 6-3. Tami Grende closed out the match with a win in the tiebreaker after a great comeback against Dimitrova 4-6, 6-1 (10-6).
“Portland is a good and improved team and we had to earn everything we got,” said Stephenson. “We have a lot of room for improvement and are looking forward to getting back to practice Tuesday.”
