Huskies Win First Of Two Matches In Hawai'i

HONOLULU – The Washington women's tennis team turned in a dominating performance on Friday afternoon against Nevada in Honolulu, HI, winning 7-0.
The Huskies began with two strong doubles performances, as Tami Grende and Miki Kobayashi defeated Sheila Morales and Blaga Delic 6-1, while Nour Abbes and Grace Ysidora defeated Delaney Phanco and Sara Korzeniecki 6-0. Elianne Douglas-Miron and Stacey Fung's match did not finish.
"We came out today with great energy in the doubles and set the tone for the match," said head coach Robin Stephenson. "We need to keep learning to handle pressure situations well and control the things we can out there."
Junior Nour Abbes took court one in singles play and defeated Claudia Herrero 6-0, 6-2. No. 65 Stacey Fung defeated Morales 6-3, 6-3 on court two, with Tami Grende picking up the win 6-0, 6-2 against Delic. Senior Elianne Douglas-Miron defeated Adriana Gergelyova 6-1, 4-6, (10-2), while Grace Ysidora picked up her fourth singles victory of the season 6-1, 6-0 against Korzeniecki. Freshman Kenadi Hance played on court six, defeating Monika Maqusiak 6-1, 6-4.
"I am happy with where we are so far this season and the way the team is competing and working to get better each day and with each match," said Stephenson.
The Huskies will conclude their road trip tomorrow, as they face Hawai'i tomorrow at noon.
