Huskies Pick Up Second Win In Honolulu

HONOLULU – After a win Friday against Nevada, the Washington women's tennis team defeated Hawai'i 6-1 today in Honolulu, HI to cap off a successful road trip.
Tami Grende and Miki Kobayashi defended court one in doubles play, defeating Roxanne Resma and Cindy Nguyen 6-2. Nour Abbes and Grace Ysidora defeated Sarah Gealer and Paulina Petriskova 6-1 to clinch the doubles point, with Elianne Douglas-Miron and Stacey Fung not finishing.
“I'm so proud of the team for their effort this entire weekend,” head coach Robin Stephenson said. “Hawai'i is a good team and they competed hard, but I thought we did a really good job from start to end executing our game plans and finishing.”
On court one, Abbes defeated Nguyen 6-3, 6-2 with No. 65 Fung winning 6-3, 6-2 as well against Gealer. Grende fell in a close match after winning the first set to Marina Hruba 4-6, 6-2, (10-7). Seniors Douglas-Miron and Ysidora won their matches today as well, with Douglas-Miron defeating Klara Pribylova 6-2, 6-2 and Ysidora getting the win over Petriskova 6-4, 6-4. Kenadi Hance continued her great start this season, defeating Resma 6-1, 6-0.
“We are starting four new players in the lineup and they have been doing such a fantastic job,” said Stephenson. “The exciting thing is how much room we have for improvement between now and April and May.”
