No. 54 Huskies Suffer 4-2 Defeat at No. 34 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – The 54th ranked University of Washington men's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss at the hands of No. 34 Minnesota on Friday afternoon at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. The Huskies move to 8-3 on the season and next face Drake on Saturday, March 7 in Minnesota.
The Huskies battled hard in doubles action with Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke getting the Dawgs the first win with a 6-2 decision over Jack Hamburg and Mathieu Froment but the Gophers responded with 6-2 wins on courts two and three over Joao Barra/Viktor Farkas and Jake Douglas/Rishabh Raman to clinch the point.
In singles play, freshman Mitch Stewart battled hard against No. 30 Leandro Toledo of Minnesota but fell 6-1, 6-2 to put Minnesota up 2-0. Fellow freshman Jake Douglas, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, brought the Huskies back with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court two, as he extended his winning streak to 15-straight matches.
After the Gophers claimed number four singles, Emmett Egger responded with a gritty 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Ruben Weber on court three to pick up his first singles win since Jan. 29. The Gophers were able to clinch the match with a tough win on court five as Viktor Farkas battled claimed the first set 7-6, but fell 6-3, 6-3 to give Minnesota the win.
The Huskies next face Drake on Saturday before returning home for a double-header against Seattle on March 13.
