
No. 56 Huskies Fall at No. 49 Pepperdine, 5-2

MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 56 University of Washington men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 to loss Tuesday afternoon to the 49th-ranked Pepperdine Waves in Malibu at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. It was the Huskies last non-conference match and the first of a three-game road span against ranked opponents. UW is now 10-5 on the season heading into the start of Pac-12 action.
The Huskies got off to a quick start winning the first doubles match as Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke posted a 6-3 win on the number one line but Pepperdine responded with two wins on courts two and three to claim the point and ride a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Washington evened the score after Jake Douglas earned a 6-3, 6-2 win playing on court two. The freshman has now won 14 of his last 15 matches and owns a 3-1 record when playing at the number two spot. After Pepperdine won on court five, Gal Hakak picked up the Huskies other point battling for a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 win on court three.
The Waves controlled the rest of the match winning on courts four, six and one to earn the 5-2 victory. Up next for the Huskies is the start of Pac-12 play as UW will head to Los Angeles to take on No. 6 USC on Friday and No. 15 UCLA on Saturday.
