LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Washington sits in the middle of the pack after the first round of The Prestige at PGA West. The Dawgs finished the day at 2-under in ninth place against the elite field at the annual tournament hosted by Stanford and UC Davis.

Arizona State (-9) and Oklahoma State (-7) rounded out the top three with the Dawgs sitting in the middle of a tightly bunched field that includes 14 teams.
Corey Pereira led Washington in round one, firing a round of 5-under 67. He is currently tied for second just one shot back of Jon Rahm of Arizona State who leads at 6-under. Pereira made eight birdies on the day, mixed with one bogey and a double bogey.
Coming in at even par with a round of 72 was the current No. 1 collegiate in the country, Cheng-Tsung Pan. Pan had his round at 3-under after eight holes, but made three bogeys without a birdie the rest of the way. He is currently tied for 30th entering the second round.
The final two scoring players for the Dawgs were Frank Garber and Jonathan Sanders. Garber played his round at 1-over 73, while Sanders finished at 2-over 74. Both players started slowly, but played the back nine at even par. Garber is currently tied for 38th, while Sanders is tied for 53rd.
