CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Husky men's golf team ended up seventh in the Pac-12 Championship on Sunday at Corvallis' Trysting Tree Golf Course, leaving Husky Coach Matt Thurmond unable to hide his feelings.

"I'm disappointed," he said. "We are all competitors and we didn't reach our goals that we worked so hard all year to obtain. There are still a lot of goals that we have left that we can reach, but we take a lot of pride in the conference championship. It's a very important tournament for us and we didn't perform very well."

It didn't all go bad for the Huskies at the tournament. Junior All-American Chris Williams was able to notch a ninth-place finish, the 19th top-10 of his decorated career. He is now third among Huskies for most top-10 results.

Williams shot a schizophrenic 2-under 70 in Sunday's final round at the 7,030-yard home course of Oregon State. He had six birdies and an eagle, but two bogeys and a pair of double-bogeys hindered his chances of winning the tournament. He ended up -5 at 283.

"Chris is a competitor," said Thurmond. "Things didn't necessarily go his way, but he kept fighting back. If you look at his scorecard, every time he made a bogey or double bogey he followed it with birdies.

"I'm proud of the way he competed even though the score isn't where he wants it."

Stanford's Andrew Yun, who will be Williams' Palmer Cup teammate this summer, ended up claiming the individual championship. He was -13 overall, two shots better than Oregon's Daniel Miernicki.

Cal won the team title in a two-hole playoff over Oregon. Both ended 72 holes of play at -12. It is the second-consecutive year that the Ducks lost the Pac-12 Championship in a playoff.

USC was third at 8-under and UCLA was fourth at -7. Host Oregon State was fifth (+7) and Stanford was sixth (+8).

The Huskies were +27, four shots better than eighth-place Colorado. Thurmond rallied his team together after the final round and tried to keep everything in perspective for his team.

"I basically told them what my dad used to always tell me," he said. "`You're never as good as you think you are, and you're never as bad as you think you are.' Right now we just need to remember that we are not as bad as we think we are and we're still a great team."

Freshman Cheng-Tsung Pan was the only other Husky to record a top-25 individual finish. The Ben Hogan Award semifinalist shot 291 (+3) overall and 74 on Sunday.

Sophomore Trevor Simsby tied for 35th after shooting 296 (+8). He wrapped things up by shooting 1-over 73.

Senior Ty Chambers turned in his best round of the tournament on Sunday. He birdied five holes, to go with four bogeys and ended up 1-under for the day. His 71 helped him finish 297 for the tourney and tied for 37th at +9.

Charlie Hughes tied for 47th among individuals at 301. He was 13-over for the tournament.

Larry Iverson rounded out the Husky scoring, ending up 69th at +25.

The Huskies will wait until Monday, May 7 to hear their NCAA regional fate. The NCAA Men's Golf committee will select 81 teams and 45 individuals for regional competition , which runs May 17-19 at six different sites.
