PULLMAN, Wash. - Freshman SooBin Kim is tied for fifth, just two strokes behind the leaders, and Washington is tied for ninth after two rounds of play at the Pac-12 Women's Golf Championship in Pullman, Wash.
"The good news is that despite a pair of doubles, SooBin is in contention," said Husky Coach Mary Lou Mulflur from her Pullman hotel. "That's really great to see from a freshman."
Kim survived double-bogeys on No. 13 and No. 1 on Saturday by countering with four birdies. She shot an even-par 72 at 6,200-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Course and is tied for fifth with one other golfer at 147 (+3).
Mulflur said Kim will play tomorrow's round in the dark, not knowing where she stands on the leaderboard.
"That's not unusual at all," she said. "I asked her if she wanted to know where she was standing tomorrow and she said, `No, I want to play my own game.'

"That's perfect. That's what she should be doing because you can't control what anybody else is doing anyways."
Daniela Holmqvist of California and Giulia Molinaro of Arizona State are tied for the lead at +1 overall. Colorado's Jennifer Coleman and UCLA's Erynne Lee are tied for third at +3.

Arizona State is +31 and fifth. Arizona is sixth at +27, followed by Oregon (+31) and Stanford (+32).
"We don't really talk about (jumping ahead of other teams) that much," said Mulflur. "You can't really control that in our sport."
The Huskies did their best to take care of what they can control: themselves. Every Husky shot better in day two than day one.

"We can clearly play a lot better and we have one more day to bring it," said Mulflur. "Today, if we jiust had one more player score a little bit better we would have been up a few spots."
Washington will be paired with Washington State and Oregon State on Sunday and be among the final groups off the tee. They are scheduled to tee off on No. 10 starting at 8:56 a.m.
