PULLMAN, Wash. - The Husky women's golf team combined to shoot a 27-over-par 315 in the first round of the first-ever Pac-12 Conference Championship on Friday and are tied with Arizona for eighth.

"The winds were probably blowing 30-miles per hour and it was cold all day," said the Huskies 29th-year Coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We started out on the tougher side (the Huskies teed off from the 10th hole) and that probably didn't help. It just took us forever to get going."

The Huskies were not alone in struggling. All 11 teams had trouble solving the conditions at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Wash. on Friday. Only one competitor shot par or better and every team combined to shoot double-digits over par at the 6,200-yard, par-72.

Arizona State, the tournament's No. 3 seed, leads the field after carding the only round under 300. The Sun Devils shot 299 (+11) and are five shots ahead of No. 1 seed and the nation's top-ranked team, UCLA. No. 4 seed California and No. 2 seed USC are tied for third at +18. Oregon, the seventh seed, shot +17 and is fifth.

Colorado is sixth after shooting 308 and Washington State is seventh - three shots better than the Huskies - at 312. Oregon State is 10th and Stanford 11th.

Giulia Molinaro of ASU is the only player under par after shooting 1-under 71. She has a three shot lead over four golfers who all shot 2-over 74 - including UCLA's Erynne Lee from Silverdale, Wash.

The Huskies' trio of freshmen led UW's effort on Friday. SooBin Kim was tops among UW golfers and in the next group behind the leaders after she shot a 3-over 75. Kim is tied for fifth.

The Canadian, who was second at the Cougar Cup in September on the same course, was 5-over through 15 holes before holing out from 70 yards for an eagle on No. 7. The shot lowered her score to where she would ultimately end at +3.

"I just had a gut feeling that I was going to birdie the hole," Kim remembered about the shot she took with her 56-degree wedge. "I landed 20 yards short of the green and it just took the slope and rolled in.

"My playing mate was more excited about the shot than I was!" she added with a laugh.

After Kim, you have to go down the leaderboard pretty far to find the next Husky. Cyd Okino was second among Huskies and is tied for 33rd after shooting a first round 79. Fellow freshman Jennifer Yang is tied for 39th after shooting an 80.

Yang's round was highlighted by the only other eagle by a Husky during the round. The Canadian was able to hole out from about 80 yards out on the par 4, 15th hole.

Senior Sadena Parks shot and 81 and is tied for 45th and sophomore Kelli Bowers shot 84 and is 54th.

Saturday's second round is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. The Huskies will tee off from the 10th hole at 9:10 a.m.
