Bowers Earns 100th Career Win On Senior Day

SEATTLE - The No. 24 UW gymnastics team sent out its seniors with a season-high team score of 196.350 on Senior Night, defeating both San Jose State and Central Michigan. Lauren Rogers posted career-highs on the vault, bars and floor to lead the Huskies.
Central Michigan finished second with a 195.300 and San Jose State scored a 194.425, respectively.
UW hosted its final home meet of the season and not only sent out the seniors on a season-high, but also hit career harks for head coach Joanne Bowers. With the dual wins over SJSU and Central Michigan, Bowers won her 50th meet as head coach of the Huskies and 100th meet in her career.
"This was our highest team score in the six years that I have been here, on senior night and with everyone putting everything together," said Bowers. "The last two weeks in practice, we have been hitting more routines under pressure, and I know that we can do it. I know we are going to hit, it is not even a question of whether we are going to hit, now it's how well we can hit it. They were just lights out tonight. I am so excited for them, it was fun."
Rogers (Plains, Pa.) won the bars with a career-high 9.925. She was the only Husky to win an event. She also posted a career-high on the floor with a 9.850 and the bars with a 9.875. Rogers finished second on the floor and third in the bars.
Senior Ruby Engreitz (Kirkland, Wash.) finished second on the bars with a season-high 9.900. Sophomore McKenzie Fechter (Mequon, Wis.) also had a season-high, finishing in a tie for third with a 9.875. Sophomore Aliza Vaccher (Eugene, Ore.) also had a season-high 9.85 on the bars. The Huskies finished with a team score of 49.350 on the event.
Fechter also posted a season-high score of 9.825 on the vault to place fourth and senior Amanda Cline took second with a 9.850.
On the beam, senior Paige Bixler (Rowlett, Texas) and Fechter tied for second with a 9.825. Bixler also had a 9.800 on the floor to finish fourth.
Fechter's score of 39.300 in the all-around finished second behind SJSU's Thomasina Wallace, who scored a 39.575.
The Huskies will compete in their final Pac-12 Dual Meet of 2012 on the road next Sunday at 2 p.m. at California.
