Husky Women 14th After Two Rounds In Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Husky women's golf team is tied for 14th out of 17 teams in the loaded field of the PING/ASU Invitational and senior Sadena Parks is tied for 15th among individuals after two rounds from Karsten Golf Course.
The Huskies started the day in 14th and ended Saturday in the exact same place. Washington was two shots better in the second round than the first, shooting 296 (+12) on a hot-day in the Tempe desert.
Despite a lack of movement on the leaderboard, the Huskies are well within reach of a top-10 finish with strong play in Sunday's final round.
"Overall, we're 6 shots out of 10th," said Husky Coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "It's a good field and if we can find a way to scrap into the top-10, that's a good finish at this event."
In order to do that, the Huskies will have to do something that they have been unable to accomplish for most of the season: get all five players to go low on the same day. But, there have been signs all week that the Huskies are capable of doing exactly that.

"We just can't quite get clicking on all cylinders. The good thing is that everybody has had their moments, so we know it's there. We have just got to get it all together on the same day," said Mulflur.
Parks maintained her spot as the top Husky on the leaderboard. She followed a 69 on Friday with a 75 today at the par-71, 6,121-yard course.
The best rounds of the day were turned in by freshman Jennifer Yang and sophomore Kelli Bowers. Both were 1-over for the day with 72's. Yang is tied for 26th and Bowers is tied for 67th.
"We are really encouraged by Jennifer Yang's play and Kelli was just in a better place mentally today," Mulflur said of the duo.
"(Kelli) has been playing so well, so yesterday was a fluky deal," Mulflur added about Bowers, who shot an uncharacteristic 80 on Friday. "It was good to see her bounce back so well today and get right back on track."
SooBin Kim is tied for 72nd and Brittany Tallman is tied for 83rd. Kim shot 78 and Tallman 77 on Saturday.
No. 1 ranked UCLA leads the field, which includes seven teams ranked in the top-15 by Golfstat.com. The defending NCAA Champion Bruins are the only squad under par at -3. Texas is second, nine strokes back.
UCLA's Tiffany Lua holds a one shot advantage heading into the final round. She is -5 for the tournament, just ahead of Demi Runas of UC Davis. Sally Watson of Stanford is third at -3.
The Huskies will be among the first groups to tee off on Sunday morning for the final round.
