No. 26 Huskies Net Sweep Of UC Santa Barbara

SEATTLE - Coming off a big win yesterday over Michigan, the Husky men's tennis team did not ease up today against 62nd-ranked UC Santa Barbara, as they posted a 7-0 victory at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The 26th-ranked Huskies did not drop a set in improving to 6-2 on the year.
Head Coach Matt Anger was certainly planning to have his team ready to finish off the weekend strong. "Nothing's ever going to be easy for us," he said. "We're going to be ready for every match, no matter how yesterday went. So that's going to be standard operating procedure for us. Ultimately we had a very good weekend. It was tough last weekend (at Boise State) and I would say it wasn't that easy this week with practice. We were kind of struggling and having to work hard, but I think we started to bounce back just as these matches came this weekend."
With the doubles point in hand, Washington went about taking all six first sets to grab control of the match. Most second sets were tighter, but one by one the Huskies began to close out the Gauchos.
The first match to finish was the top match, where 15th-ranked junior Kyle McMorrow broke early in the second set and continued to hold his serve on the way to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Mathieu Forget. The next point came from junior Marton Bots, a 6-1, 6-1 winner at third singles over Axel Bouillin.
Redshirt freshman Nicholas Kamisar took care of the clinching fourth point as he handled Alexander Gryaznov, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles spot. At second singles, freshman Emmett Egger rallied from 3-5 down in the second set to win the final four games and beat Greg Scott, 6-1, 7-5.
At fifth singles, sophomore Max Manthou had a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ziad Sultan to make it 6-0 and then freshman Viktor Farkas completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 win at the four spot over Mbonisi Ndimande.
UW swept the doubles point despite a vocal and intense Gauchos team that came out looking to take the early lead. Jeff Hawke and Manthou took control quickly at second doubles, and ran away with an 8-1 victory over Scott and Bouillin. McMorrow and Egger then made one service break stand up in a 8-6 win over Forget and Ndimande. At third doubles, senior Matt Stith and Bots came back from 5-7 down to force a tiebreak against Sultan and Gryaznov, and they saved a match point to win it, 9-7.
The Huskies will have a week off before taking to the road for two matches in Eugene against the Ducks and UC Irvine in early March.
