Huskies Stretch Unbeaten Streak To Seven

BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Ben Fisk scored the game-tying goal in the 70th minute as the UW and Cal ended in a 1-1 draw on Friday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.
Washington remains unbeaten in its last seven matches and in first-place in the Pac-12 standings with the tie, boasting a 9-3-3 overall record and a 4-0-2 mark in league play. Cal is 7-5-2, 2-3-1.
"The team didn't let the penalty get our heads down," said co-captain Fisk. "We responded by playing our game and kept pushing the tempo. We all had a belief that chances would come if we kept to our game plan and they did. Getting points away from home is always a positive and it says even more about this group of guys to battle back from a goal down. Ideally we want wins all the time but to be away from home and get a tie is not the worst result."
Tony Salciccia scored the games' first goal in the 66th minute on a penalty kick after Cal drew a foul in the box. The kick went into the upper right corner, over the head and out of reach of Husky goalkeeper Spencer Richey.
Fisk's goal came off of a cross from Thoma to the ride side as Fisk headed the ball into the back right corner. It was the second goal of the season for Fisk.
The Huskies won the battle of the corner kicks (11-4) and shots (25-13). The UW forced Cal goalkeeper Kevin Peach to make nine saves. Richey made six for the Huskies in goal. Six of the UW corners came in the first half and all gave the Huskies good opportunities on goal.
Senior Abdul Aman, junior Taylor Peay and freshman James Moberg had two shots on goal each. Peay led the team with six total shots and senior Nate Sackeyfio had five.
"Going on the road to a place like Cal is always tough," said head coach Jamie Clark. "We created more than enough chances to win the game but in the end we knew it was going to be tight. A point on the road in conference is a good point. Now the challenge is to get three on Sunday."
Washington is 2-2-3 in OT this season. The seven-match unbeaten streak matches the longest streak by a Husky team since the 2012 team also went unbeaten in seven-straight with a 6-0-1 record in that span.
Washington will remain in the bay area to face Stanford on Sunday at 3 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
