Richey Named Tournament's Defensive MVP

SEATTLE - UW finished off a week of three-straight home games with an upset victory over No. 24/20 UAB, 2-1 to win the Husky Fever Classic with a perfect 2-0 record.
UW and Portland both went 2-0 in the tournament but due to a +1 goal differential, UW won the tourney. UAB and Houston Baptist both went 0-2.
Junior Quinton Beasley (Camas, Wash.) scored his first goal on the year on an assist from his high school teammate, senior Brent Richards (Camas, Wash.) on a pass from the left side. UW took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.
UW's game-winning goal came from junior Casey McCool (Bend, Ore.) off of a Jacob Hustedt (Sandy, Utah) rebounded shot, wide open in front of goal. It was the second of season for McCool and came in the 21st minute.
UAB's lone goal came on a penalty kick as Babayele Sodade struck it in past Spencer Richey.
Richey, a sophomore keeper from Seattle, Wash., made two saves in the game and was named the tournament's Defensive MVP.
Steven Evans from Portland was named the Offensive MVP.
UW took 12 shots, led by Richards with four.
The Huskies open Pac-12 play on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at Oregon State.
