PULLMAN, Wash. -- Three Husky women's golfers finished among the top five to lead Washington to a 12-stroke victory in the Cougar Cup at Palouse Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday. Washington ended up shooting a tournament record +26 overall (890) to claim its first team title since winning the California Collegiate on April 10, 2005.

"It's great," Husky Head Coach Mary Lou Mulflur said about her program's season-opening victory. "It was a total team effort.

"Some of the people that struggled yesterday played better today, and some of the people that played well yesterday, struggled today. It's good when everybody kind of gets into the mix and contributes."

Washington combined for an 8-over 296 in the final round. Stanford ended up second, thanks to the day's best score of 292. The Cardinal ended up at +38 (902). Idaho was third at +46, followed by host Washington State at +53.

Stanford's Sally Watson rolled in a 40-foot putt on her final hole to shoot 2-under 70 and win by a stroke at +4 (220) overall.

Husky freshmen Soo Bin Kim entered the final round first and second on the leaderboard, but could not hold onto the lead in their first-ever collegiate tournament. Kim tied for second with two other competitors at +5 (221), while Okino fell into a tie for fifth with teammate Sadena Parks at +7 (223).

Kim held the tournament lead after the turn today, but bogeyed three-straight from No. 12-14 to fall back to the field. She birdied No. 15, but bogeyed No. 17 to leave her at +3 for the day where she ultimately ended.

Okino led at the start of the day at even par, but quickly succumbed to the pressures of leading in her first tournament. She started her day with a bogey and by her eighth hole found herself at +6 for the day. She ended up shooting 79 to end up three strokes behind Watson.

"Today was tough on Cyd," Mulflur said. "To (start) in the lead in her very first college tournament is a tough position to be in. It was just her second day of college golf. But, I think she held up very well."

Parks led Washington's efforts on the day with a 1-under 71. She was one of four competitors to score under par during the final round.

Sophomore Kelli Bowers notched a top-15 finish, tying for 14th at +12. She was 1-over on the day, carding a 73.

The Huskies third scholarship freshman Jennifer Yang also played well in her debut. She ended up tied for 20th at +13.

Freshman walk on Jennifer Liedes led a trio of Huskies competing as individuals in the tournament by tying for 44th at +21. Darcie Richmond tied for 52nd at +25 and Brittany Tallman finished +31 to tie for 67th.

The Huskies will stop at Suncadia Golf Resort in Cle Elum on their drive home from Pullman for several days of team competitions. They return to action Oct. 3-5 at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, the team's lone home event of the year.
