Tallman Impressive At PNGA Publinx Championship

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Washington women's golf team combined to shoot a 313 in Saturday's second round of the PING/ASU Invitational and are 15th out of 17 teams competing. Washington is +34 (610) after completing 36 holes at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course.

It looks like Sunday's final round will be a two-team race between UCLA and USC. The Los Angeles schools are each at -11 and ahead of third-place Texas by eight strokes.

Temperatures reached 95 degrees on Saturday and a couple of the Huskies handled the heat well. Senior Anya Alvarez and sophomore Brittany Tallman led the Huskies effort on Saturday, each shooting rounds of 5-over 77. Alvarez is tied for 23rd at 3-over par 147. Tallman is tied for 77th.

The Huskies teed off from No. 10 and several golfers got off to a hot start, especially Alvarez. The Jenks, Okla. Native had birdies on No. 11 and No. 14 to start the round at -2. From there, she only had one more birdie, but had five bogeys and a triple bogey.

Tallman had an overall solid round but slipped up on No. 17 and No. 18. She doubled No. 17 and tripled No. 18, her only non-par holes on her front nine. She was even on her last nine, birdying No. 1 and bogeying No. 8.

Darcie Richmond had a 78 (+6) and is second among Husky individuals, tied for 56th overall at +8 (152) for the tournament.

Sadena Parks shot an 82 and Karinn Dickinson an 83. They are 73rd and 84th, respectively, on the leaderboard.

The tournament serves as the UW's final tune up before the Pac-10 Championships. The conference tournament will also be held at Karsten Golf Course.

Tee times start tomorrow at 8:20 a.m. PT for the Huskies on the 10th tee.
