No. 7 Huskies Pick Up 30th Win At No. 8 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - In their first Pac-10 road game of 2011, the UW softball team, ranked No. 7/8 in the country, shutout No. 8/7 Arizona, 3-0, in the opening game of the series Friday night.
UW improves to 30-4 on the season and is now tied with Arizona and UCLA for the lead in the Pac-10 at 5-2. The Wildcats fall to 34-8.
"We are very happy with how our team came out in the first three innings," said senior Morgan Stuart. "Kaitlin (Inglesby) did awesome and our defense had her back all game. We are looking to get better in the next two games with being consistent offensively."
Freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) pitched her third-straight complete game in league play and her seventh of the season. It was her third shutout in her first-ever Pac-10 road game and the highest ranked team she has faced this season.
Inglesby improves to 18-2 in the circle. She struck out four and allowed eight hits.
The Huskies had six hits from six different hitters off of the Arizona All-American Kenzie Fowler.
UW scored in the top of the first as junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) came across home plate on a single to right field by senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.).
Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) scored the second run in the second inning as sophomore Maggie Wagner (Woodinville, Wash.) hit a bunt single and Stuart scored on a throwing error on the play. Wagner earned the start at second, her second of the year.
Inglesby went deep for the second-straight game with a solo home run to center field to lead off the third. It was her ninth of the year.
"I think our defense really stepped up tonight," said Salling. "When Kait got in a bit of a jam our defense picked her up and this is what great teams do. I was really proud of our defense all across the board today. Arizona is a great offensive team and to make them put a zero on the board at the house is a good feeling but we still have a lot of work to do."
The two teams will play game two of the series on Saturday at 7 p.m. Live audio available on KKNW 1150 AM.
