
Game Two Of Series Goes To Wildcats, 13-5

TUCSON, Ariz. - After an impressive win in game one of the series at No. 8/7 Arizona on Friday, the No. 7/8 Huskies fell 13-5 in five innings in the second game Saturday night in Tucson, Ariz.
UW falls to 30-5 overall and 5-3 in Pac-10 play. It was first loss of the year for the Huskies on the road, dropping to 8-1 in those contests. The Wildcats improve to 35-8 and 6-2.
Freshman Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) earned the start in the circle. She allowed four runs on two hits in 1.1 innings and took the loss, falling to 3-3 on the year. A freshman also earned the start for Arizona in the circle, as Shelby Babcock got the win, allowing five runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
Arizona scored its first run against the Dawgs in the series in the first inning as Lauren Schutzler scored on a sacrifice fly after her triple for a 1-0 lead after the first.
The Wildcats took a huge lead in the second after scoring seven runs in the inning, highlighted with a grand slam by Stacie Chambers with two outs.
All season however, the Huskies have been able to rally with their explosive offense and made it a game in the third. Sophomore Maggie Wagner (Woodinville, Calif., who earned her second-straight start at second base) led off the inning with a single. After junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and freshman Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) both reached base on infield singles, junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) hit a two-RBI single to right.
After senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) drew a walk on four-straight pitches, freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) hit an infield single to drive in the third Husky run. Pohlman scored the fourth on a fielder's choice.
Freshman Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.) entered to pitch in relief and held Arizona scoreless in its half of the third. Jones pitched 2.0 complete innings, also ending the game. She allowed six runs on seven hits. Inglesby pitched 1.0 inning, allowing three runs on two hits in relief.
UW cut the lead to three, 8-5 with its final run in the fourth. Junior Jenna Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.) pinch hit to lead off the inning and singled to left field. After a walk to Williams, Pohlman singled to center for the RBI.
A solo home run in the fourth by Brigette Del Ponte made it 9-5. The Wildcats would get two more runs in the inning for a seven-run lead. .
Del Ponte hit her second home run of the game in the fifth, a solo shot and Chambers ended the game with a solo homer of her own.
Arizona had 11 hits in the game while UW had eight. The Huskies were led by Pohlman with two hits and three RBIs.
