Inglesby And The Huskies Finish Off The Bears

SEATTLE - The No. 7/6 UW softball team had an offensive explosion vs. No. 12/9 Cal in the final and deciding game of the series Sunday afternoon at Husky Softball Stadium. UW won 9-1 in six innings after a 2-1 victory in extra innings on Saturday. The Huskies improve to 29-4 overall and 4-2 in the Pac-10 while the Golden Bears fall to 24-8 and 2-4.
Freshman pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) earned her second-straight start against the Bears, allowing just one run, unearned, just two hits and striking out five. She improves to 17-2 in the circle and had a perfect 0.00 ERA in the series.
The game was close until the bottom of the sixth when the Huskies picked up six runs. Senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) led off with a single off of the leg of the pitcher, Arianna Erceg.
Junior Jenna Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.) pinch hit and reached on an error. Cal had three errors in the game. Fellow junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) hit her first triple of the year off of the right field wall as two runs scored, one earned and one unearned.
Kimi Pohlman (junior, Sammamish, Wash.) singled to right for an RBI. After another single to right by senior Jenn Saling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.), Inglesby hit a three-run home run, her eighth of the season to end the game by way of mercy rule.
UW struck in the first inning as Pohlman scored on a single by Inglesby. Pohlman also scored in the third on another single by Inglesby. Inglesby had five of the UW RBIs in the game.
Sophomore Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) had a home run of her own to lead off the second inning, it was her sixth of the year.
The Huskies had 12 hits in the game.
Cal scored its only run on a Husky error in the top of the second.
The first Pac-10 games on the road in 2011 for UW will be at Arizona on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m.
