CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The No. 7/9 UW softball team completed its sweep of the Cathedral City Classic, going a perfect 5-0 on the weekend and improving to 13-0 on the year with a 5-3 victory over Cal Poly Saturday afternoon.

As the home team in purple and white, the Huskies got great performances from the top three batters in the lineup, juniors Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) and Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.). Combined, they went 8-for-10 with eight hits, five runs and five RBIs. Salling was just a home run shy of the cycle.

Pohlman and Salling led off the first inning with back-to-back doubles as Pohlman scored the first run of the game.

Cal Poly's Anna Cahn hit a solo home run off of Husky starter, freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) to tie the game in the top of the second. Inglesby picked up her seventh win on the year, allowing just one run on one hit and added two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the inning, UW re-took the lead for good. Pohlman hit a bunt single and Salling drove her in with an RBI triple to right field. A double by Williams brought in Salling.

The Huskies got two more runs in the fourth. Pohlman and Salling both singled to get on base and scored on a double to right field by Williams.

The Mustangs got two runs back in the sixth off of a two RBI single for Nicole Lund off of junior Jenna Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.).

Freshman Whitney Jones picked up her first career save, allowing just two hits in 1 1/3 innings.

The Huskies will play a three-game series at the University of New Mexico next weekend.
