FLUSHING, N.Y. - Husky junior Kyle McMorrow came up short today in his USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships debut, falling to the tourney's eighth seed at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. McMorrow will have consolation singles matches ahead on Friday.
The first Husky to qualify for the elite national tournament since 2005, McMorrow faced Illinois' Dennis Nevolo, currently ranked seventh nationally in singles. McMorrow, ranked 22nd, could not score the upset, falling 6-2, 6-4.
National Indoors is the second of the three major national championships on the college tennis calendar. McMorrow has now played in the past three majors, falling in the first round of the NCAA Championships this past spring, then making the second round of the ITA All-American Championships to begin the fall season in October.
The rest of the Huskies will begin competition at the PNW Intercollegiates tomorrow in Eugene, Oregon.
