Freshman Kim Tied For Lead At Stanford Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. - Husky freshman Soo Bin Kim shot 3-under 68 in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate and will enter Sunday's final round tied for the individual lead, but the Huskies dropped from a first place tie down to a tie for fourth in the team standings.
Kim played flawless golf on Saturday, shooting a bogey-free round to move to 8-under 134 overall for the 54-hole tournament at Stanford Golf Course. She has a share of the lead with Oregon's Cassy Isagawa, who finished tied for second at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational last week.
Kim began the day tied for second with teammate Sadena Parks. She shot 3-under 32 on the front nine and had nine pars for a 36 on the back nine.
"She is just playing so well and with a lot of confidence," UW Head Coach Mary Lou Mulflur said about her freshman from Coquitlam, B.C. "This is more typical of how we thought she would play than what we saw (score-wise) in the first two tournaments."

Washington started the day tied for first with top-ranked UCLA after a school record 277 on Friday. The Huskies could not maintain the momentum on Saturday as Kim was the only UW golfer to shoot under par. Washington combined to shoot 3-over 287 on the day and is 4-under 564 for the tournament.
"We looked good today," said Mulflur. "We just didn't make as many putts today as we did yesterday. We didn't quite have the same kind of self-assurance."
"As poorly as we played, we're not that far out of it. We definitely feel like we're in a good place."
UCLA has a four-stroke lead after 36 holes and is 12-under 556 overall. Vanderbilt is second at -8, followed by Oregon (-5). USC is tied with the Huskies at -4. Oklahoma State is sixth at even-par after two rounds.
After Kim, Parks is the next highest Husky in the standings. After a birdie on No. 3 dropped her to -6 for the tournament, things unraveled for the senior from Bethel, Wash.
Parks double-bogeyed No. 5 and bogeyed No.'s 8 and 10 to go to -1 overall. She rallied with a birdie on No. 12, but bogeyed No.'s 14 and 16. Parks finished strong with a birdie on No. 18 to finish +3 for the day.
Overall, Parks is tied for 15th at 2-under for the tournament.
The Huskies other three competitors are tied for 54th out of 87 golfers. Kelli Bowers, Cyd Okino and Jennifer Yang are each 5-over 147 through two rounds.
Yang had the best day among the group, shooting 1-over 72 after a first round 75. Bowers shot 73 and Okino 76.
Sunday's third round starts at 8:15 a.m. with Washington, USC and Oklahoma State paired together and teeing off from No. 1.
