STANFORD, Calif. -- A pair of Washington women's golf records fell on Sunday as freshman Soo Bin Kim's cruised to medalist honors at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Kim ended up with the lowest 54-hole total in UW history by shooting 13-under 200 at Stanford Golf Course to win her first college tournament. The team combined to shoot 847 (-5) bettering their previous record of 850, also set at the Stanford Intercollegiate in 2003.
For Kim, the victory came in just her third college tournament. Kim's score of 13-under equaled Anya Alvarez's 54-hole total versus par in 2008 at the Las Vegas Invitational, but her gross score was three shots better than Alvarez's 203.
She fired 5-under 66 during the final round to win by two strokes over UCLA's Stephanie Kono. The 66 equaled the second lowest round ever by a Husky in the final round.
"What an impressive week," said Husky Head Coach Mary Lou Mulflur of her freshman from Coquitlam, B.C. "Here you are in your third college start, you know you're tied for the lead and you go out and play a bogey-free round."
"It was just absolutely spectacular. She was calm and good from the very start and I couldn't be happier for her."
Washington needed every bit of Kim's historic round to earn a third-place finish among the impressive 16-team field. The Huskies trailed only top-ranked UCLA (842) and 10th-ranked Vanderbilt (845) on the final leaderboard.

Washington, rated No. 36 by Golfstat.com, was able to finish ahead of eight teams ranked higher than them, including four top-10 squads. No. 29 Oregon was fourth behind the Huskies, followed by second-ranked Oklahoma State, eighth-ranked USC and No. 3 Arizona State.
"It was a team effort. Everybody played well at times," Mulflur said.
"We had a few hiccups at the end," she continued, referring to Washington's +5 score over the final five holes. "But to finish third at this tournament, with this field gives us some momentum heading into the Pac-12/SEC Challenge next week."
The second best finish turned in by a Husky was 20th place from senior Sadena Parks of Bethel, Wash. Parks fired a final round 74 to end +1 overall for the tournament.
Sophomore Kelli Bowers was next on the leaderboard, ending up tied for 39th at +5. She fired the second best round of the day among Huskies, carding an even-par 71. She started 3-under through the first 12 holes, but a bogey on No. 13 and double-bogey on No. 15 brought her back to even.
Freshman Jennifer Yang tied for 47th after firing a 1-over 72 on Sunday. The high school teammate of Kim ended up tied for 6-over 219.
The third freshman in the UW lineup, Cyd Okino, ended up tying for 57th. She shot 75 during Sunday's final round.
