SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Another shutout and two more goals for the Huskies as the UW women's soccer team (7-2-1) defeated San Francisco (4-7-0) at Negoesco Stadium by a score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies fired 13 shots, eight on goal to just seven total shots and three on goal for the Dons.
The Dawgs got one goal in each period, the first coming from freshman Lindsay Elston (Sammamish, Wash.) on an assist by junior Alex Webber (Poway, Calif.), her first of the season. It was the second goal of the weekend for Elston who scored her first career goal in Friday's game at St. Mary's. She tapped this one into the left corner.
Senior McKenna Waitley (Coronado, Calif.) scored her second goal of the season in the 83rd minute from the left side to the lower right corner. The assist came from senior Jane Mitchell (San Diego, Calif.), her second of the year.
Junior Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann (Lakewood, Wash.) picked up her second shutout of her Husky career and improves to 4-2-1. She made three saves.
Washington the corner kicks 7-3 and the foul count was USF, 17 and UW, 10.
"It's a great win for our team today," said head coach Lesle Gaillimore. "We got two wins on the weekend and came out strong today. Lindsay scored another great goal for us. McKenna also scored for us late to give us a cushion. Another shutout for Jorde she had a great weekend. I was overall pleased with our back line, (Lindsey) Bos, (Kendyl) Pele and (Hannah) Greig were stellar both games. Now we are getting ready for school to start and prepare for Portland before conference play begins."
The Huskies will play just one match next week at No. 3 Portland on Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
