Five Huskies Listed On Academic All-Pac-10 Team
Friday, June 4, 1:30 a.m. CDT: It was three-hour game that stretched into the following morning, so therefore a long day for the Husky softball team. But, no game on Friday, so a chance to recharge and get ready to face Pac-10 rival Arizona Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Central/11:30 a.m. Pacific. Again, that game will air live on ESPN2 television.
Here's the recap of the UW-Georgia game, which also links to the box score. Post-game quotes will come soon.
Additionally, here's a link to the updated WCWS bracket.
Friday, June 4, 12:20 a.m. CDT: Dawgs had a great chance in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with two outs to bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate. But, after battling and fouling off several two-strike pitches, Shawna Wright struck out to end the inning.
In the seventh, Georgia went down in order in the top of the inning and the Huskies did the same in the bottom.
Final Score: Georgia 6, Washington 3
The Huskies' next game, after a day off on Friday, will be vs. Arizona in an elimination game Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Central Time/11:30 a.m. Pacific. The game will be on ESPN2.
Lots of work to do with post-game press conference, etc., but we'll have a full recap and more here at gohuskies.com as soon as possible.
Thursday, June 3, 11:39 p.m. CDT: Top of the sixth brings bad news for the UW. With runners at the corners and one out, Lawrie struck out Taylor Schlopy. But Wiggins hit her 16th homer of the year, a two-out liner to dead center, to give Georgia its first lead of the night.
Dawgs need to rally ... down 6-3 going to the bottom of the sixth.
Thursday, June 3, 11:08 p.m. CDT: Tense times for the Huskies in the top of the fifth as the first three Georgia batters reach base on singles. Megan Wiggins then extended her school-record hitting streak to 21 games with a single to shallow right, driving in one. Alisa Goler then hit a ground ball to second and the throw came home to get the lead runner for the first out. The next batter hit a grounder to first, but this time the throw home was just a tad late and the game was tied at 3-3. Yet another grounder, this one to third, resulted in the second out on another throw to the plate and Ashley Razey lined out to a diving Jenn Salling at short to end the inning with the score tied at 3-3. Great play from Salling -- saved perhaps two runs!
Thursday, June 3, 10:47 p.m. CDT: The Bulldogs put a run on the board in the top of the fourth on a two-out solo homer from catcher Kristyn Sandberg. In the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies loaded the bases with one out, but pinch runner Alyson McWherter was thrown out on a force at the plate on a ground ball from Kimi Pohlman. That brought up Lawrie with two outs and the sacks still full. But she popped out to end the inning. Huskies lead it, 3-1, after four complete.
Thursday, June 3, 10:25 p.m. CDT: Going to the fourth inning now. In the third, Lawrie gave up her first hit, a two-out single, then walked a batter to put two on. Georgia's left fielder, Megan Wiggins, hit a long fly to center that had the Bulldog fans in full voice, but Niki Williams caught it well short of the track to end the inning. Still 3-0 Washington as the fourth inning gets underway.
Thursday, June 3, 10:08 p.m. CDT: Still 3-0 as we go to the third inning. Everyone in the press box thought that Lawrie had homered in the second, but her long flyout was caught at the fence. In previous years, before they moved the fences back, it would have been gone ... and a nice play from Husky third baseman Morgan Stuart to open the third!
Thursday, June 3, 9:55 p.m. CDT: Lawrie retires the Bulldogs in order once more in the second. In the bottom of the second, a new pitcher is on the mound for Georgia: Erin Arevalo.
Thursday, June 3, 9:40 p.m. CDT: Huskies retire Georgia in order in the top of the first, and then in the bottom, Niki Williams comes through with a long, two-out double off the fence in left, scoring Jenn Salling from second with first run of the game. Then it's freshman Hooch Fagaly, singling through the left side of the infield to send home Williams and Lawrie. 3-0 Huskies after one inning!
Thursday, June 3, 9:21 p.m. CDT: And we're under way!
Thursday, June 3, 8:55 p.m. CDT: First pitch for the Huskies and Georgia is now officially set for 9:20 p.m. CDT (7:20 p.m. Seattle Time). Here are the lineups: UGA - Schlopy, CF; Wiggins, LF; Goler, 3B; Hesson, 1B; Sandberg, C; Razey, 2B; Auger, RF; Trout, SS; Pauly, DP; McCloud, P.
UW - Salling, SS; Pohlman, RF; Lawrie, P; Wright, C; Williams, LF; Fagaly, 1B; Smith, DP; Stuart, 3B; Fleischman, 2B; McWherter, CF.
Here's the box score from the Tennessee-Arizona game.
Thursday, June 3, 8:25 p.m. CDT: It's obvious now, if you've been following the Tennessee-Arizona game, that the Huskies' WCWS nightcap vs. Georgia will not begin as scheduled at 6:30 Pacific Time. The Lady Vols and Wildcats are only in the fourth inning of the opening day's game three, though Tennessee is up 7-0 and therefore could conceivably end the game early on the run rule (eight runs or more after five innings). Regardless, we're already past the point of starting the UW game on time. When the Tennessee-Arizona game wraps up, it'll be about 25 minutes until the Huskies and Bulldogs start play.
The Huskies arrived nearly two hours ago and began warming up on the practice field. Thankfully, with dusk coming, the temperatures will cool off in time for tonight's game.
In addition to live television (ESPN2 and espn3.com) and radio (KKNW AM-1150 and newschannel1150.com) coverage, a reminder that you can follow the state via gametracker. Here's the link.
Thursday, June 3, 6:05 p.m. CDT: The UCLA-Florida game ended after six innings -- a 16-3 Bruins win. The "West Coast" (assuming you include Hawai'i in that) is 2-0 after two games. Here's the box score for that game.
The next game, Arizona vs. Tennessee, will start a half hour late due to the length of the earlier game -- at 6:30 p.m. CT. So, nothing's set in stone, but it's obviously likely that the UW game won't begin on time. We'll do our best to keep you up to date here, when and if we know more. Again, the speed of the Arizona-Tennessee game will determine when the Huskies get started.
Thursday, June 3, 5:30 p.m. CDT: At the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium now and the first session of the day is still going on, though it will likely be over very soon as UCLA boasts a 16-3 lead over Florida in the second game of the day and needs to get only three outs to invoke the run rule.
It's pretty hot and steamy here in the midwest and much of the crowd for the first session headed out early thanks to the large margin in the score. Many others are already seeking out the shade in the stadium.
The players and coaches still won't arrive for another hour or so, and to be honest, thanks to the length of the first two contests, it's already likely that the Huskies' game vs. Georgia will start late, though the pace of the Tennessee-Arizona game, which is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. Central (though it'll probably start at least tad late) will dicate that.
Thursday, June 3, 2:45 p.m. CDT: The first game of the 2010 Women's College World Series is in the books and the lowest seed in the field, #16 Hawai'i, opened the Series in style with a 3-2 win over ninth-seeded Missouri. Traci Yoshikawa hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to provide the winning margin. Here's a box score from that game.
The Rainbow Wahine have a good chance to be a crowd favorite here in Oklahoma City as their starting pitcher, Stephanie Ricketts, is the sister of Oklahoma starting pitcher Keilani Ricketts, as well as former Sooner Samantha Ricketts. The OU fans who attend the Series are sure to support Hawai'i due to that connection.
That game, of course, was in the other half of the bracket, as is the Florida-UCLA game that's just underway. The Huskies still have nearly six more hours until the schedule start of their game tonight at 8:30 p.m. Central Time.
Thursday, June 3, 10:15 a.m. CDT: Gameday is here! However, there's still a lot of time to pass before the Huskies actually head over to the stadium and take the field. The Huskies aren't slated to play Georgia until 8:30 p.m. Central Time (that's 6:30 p.m. on the West Coast) in the fourth game of the day. So, in the interim, the team will hang out at the hotel, get in a workout, do some studying and have a meal or two.
It's overcast this morning in Oklahoma City, and cooler than it has been, but still there's only a chance of rain today, and the temps should still make it into the 90s. The forecast for OKC continues to show temperatures getting up into the high-90s and heading close to triple digits.

More later from Oklahoma City.
Wednesday, June 2, 5:15 p.m. CDT:The Huskies are on the practice field right now. They have an hour on a field off to the side of the main ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, then an hour in the stadium itself. It's quite hot (right about 93 degrees), certainly by Seattle standards, but everyone's drinking plenty of water and dealing with it.
As noted earlier, prior to practice, the players spent some time with ESPN, taping various things for the intros, etc., during the game broadcasts.
Here's a photo gallery from some of what they've been up to today, plus a couple of videos -- one of Kimi Pohlman taping her intro and another of Danielle Lawrie breaking a pane of glass with a pitch.
Wednesday, June 2, 3:15 p.m. CDT: The team will arrive soon for it's busy afternoon at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium ... just enough time to point out that a new "Breaking It Down With Bailey," the regular blog from senior Bailey Stenson, is up and available.
You can read all about the Huskies' Super Regional win and their trip to Oklahoma City by clicking here.
Wednesday, June 2, 2:15 p.m. CDT: The first press conference of the day has taken place here at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. Coach Heather Tarr and Danielle Lawrie appeared for the Huskies, along with the head coach and a player from each team (Arizona, Georgia, Tennessee) in the Huskies' half of the bracket. Later, a player and coach from Arizona, Florida, Missouri and UCLA will arrive for their meeting with the press.
The team is all back at the hotel, where many of them are spending time studying, prior to their first trip to the stadium this week. All the players and coaches will spend a little time with ESPN, shooting their introductions, doing interviews and more. After that, they have one hour on a practice field and then one hour on the game field.
It's hot in Oklahoma -- just about 91 degrees and clear right now -- and it's expected to get hotter. Lawrie addressed the temperature in her comments to the press.
Don't forget: the Huskies play the fourth of four WCWS games tomorrow. It's Washington vs. Georgia at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time. The game will be on ESPN2 and on KKNW AM-1150 radio. You can watch on espn3.com, or listen at kknw1150.com.
Here are a couple of brief videos from the press conference -- one each of Tarr and Lawrie answering questions:
