Pac-10 Championships Draws and Results
OJAI, Calif. - The Husky men's tennis team stepped up today with victories in six of seven matches as the Pac-10 Championships continued at Libbey Park. Third-seeded doubles duo Kyle McMorrow and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan made their way into the semifinals, as did Alex Rosinski in the invitational singles draw.
Washington rebounded well today from a tough end to Friday's action, where four singles players were ousted in the Round of 16. The Huskies now remain in contention for three of the four titles up for grabs heading into Saturday's semifinal action.
Doubles play started up this morning, and both UW main draw entries picked up opening round wins. McMorrow and Nedunchezhiyan, ranked 75th in the latest ITA rankings, defeated Cal's Bozhidar Katsarov and Sky Lovill, 8-6. Derek Drabble and Martin Kildahl meanwhile posted an 8-2 win over UCLA's Alex Brigham and Holden Seguso.
In the quarterfinals, McMorrow and Nedunchezhiyan earned another 8-6 win, this one coming against Haythem Abid and Matt Brooklyn of UCLA. Drabble and Kildahl suffered UW's only setback on the day, a hard-fought 8-6 defeat to the second-seeded and second-ranked duo of Klahn and Thacher from Stanford.
Saturday, Nedunchezhiyan and McMorrow will face the top-seeds, Robert Farah and Steve Johnson of USC, who are ranked eighth nationally. This is the second straight year that a UW pair has made the Pac-10 semis, as Drabble and Kildahl reached the same round last season.
Rosinski had a very convincing wins in the invitational draw quarters. Rosinski beat Oregon's Aaron Clissold for the second time in less than a week, 6-2, 6-3. Junior Brad Bator fell to Stanford's Matt Kandath in another quarter, 6-1, 6-0. The result of his match was erroneously reported on Friday.
Rosinski also teamed up with junior Tobi Obenaus for a win in the invitational doubles draw. The two had a bye into the quarterfinals, where they dispatched USC's Giger and Lankenau, 8-4, to reach the semifinals.
