EUGENE, Ore. -- Husky sophomore Sadena Parks is tied for fourth and the UW women are seventh after the first round of the Pac-10 Championships at Eugene Country Club.
"Sadena played very solid," said Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "She hit fairways and greens all day and gave herself many opportunites to make birdies . I was very pleased for her as it was her first sub-par round of the year...and what a time for it."
Parks, from Bethel, Wash., shot a 2-under-par 70 at the 6,203-yard course and is three strokes behind leader Joanne Lee of California. Her previous best round was an even-par 71 at Stanford. Anya Alvarez is the only other Husky in the top-10 coming into the clubhouse in a six-way tie for ninth with an even par 72.
As a team, Washington was +8 (296) and is three strokes behind sixth-place Arizona. Defending national champion Arizona State leads at 5-under 283. USC is second, followed by California, UCLA and Oregon.
Husky senior Molly Aronsson enters the second round tied for 29th at +3. Karinn Dickinson is tied for 38th at +7, while Darcie Richmond is tied for 43rd at +9.
The Huskies will be paired with Stanford for the second round and begin teeing off from the 10th tee at 8:46 a.m.
