GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Husky women's golf team struggled in the first round of the NCAA East Regional on Thursday, shooting a collective 17-over-par 305 to finish the day tied for 20th out of 24 teams. Auburn, the region's No. 2 seed, leads the field playing at the par-72, 6,321-yard Ironwood Golf Club after shooting an 8-under 280.
No Washington golfer had previously played on the Lee Trevino-designed course. Senior Molly Aronsson shot a 3-over-par 75 to lead the Husky contingent and is tied for 67th out of 122 competitors. She shot a 2-over 38 on the front nine and backed that up with a 1-over 37 on the back.
A pair of sophomores - Sadena Parks and Darcie Richmond - are one stroke back of Aronsson and tied for 81st at +4. Both Parks and Richmond shot 38's on the front and the back.
Junior Karinn Dickinson is tied for 106th after a first round 6-over 78 and Anya Alvarez is tied for 109th at +7.
