STANFORD -- Husky women's golf coach Mary Lou Mulflur wanted to see how her team stacked up against stiff competition as the fall season ended this weekend at Stanford Golf Course. What she is learning is that her team could have an excellent spring and the future beyond looks bright thanks to the play of an outstanding freshman.
The Huskies combined to shoot a 295 (+11) in Saturday's second round of the Pac-10/SEC Challenge and are tied for sixth out of 21 squads.
Washington has been led by the play of newcomer Kelli Bowers, who shot an even-par 71 at the 6148-yard course on Saturday. Bowers started with a birdie on No. 1, but went through a stretch of four bogeys over the next nine holes. She rebounded nicely though, going bogey-free over his final eight holes and converting birdie opportunities on No. 12, 14 and 18.
Bowers is tied for eighth entering Sunday's final round at -1 (70-71-141).
Senior Anya Alvarez was the Huskies next best scorer for the day and in the tournament with a second-consecutive round of 73. She is tied for 24th at +4 (73-73-146).
Senior Karinn Dickinson and junior Sadena Parks are tied for 35th at +6. Dickinson shot a 4-over 75, while Parks shot a 6-over 77.
Freshman A Ram Choi is tied for 60th at +10.
